Germany, Weimar Republic. An Upper Silesia Self-Defence Force Sleeve Insignia Archive A 1937 German Lifesaving Award(Abzeichen des Selbstschutzes Oberschlesien). Instituted May 1921 by Generalleutnant Karl Hoefer. (1921 issue). Constructed of gilded and silvered bronze, the obverse consisting of a shield with a pebbled border, bearing a central raised hydra pierced by a sword, perforated with four holes for sew on attachment, the reverse has been modified with a vertical pinback, unmarked, measuring 44 mm (w) x 54 mm (h), in overall very fine condition.
